1.   Always reply to all the messages/ emails/ Facebook comments/ Tweets you receive. This is important as it builds rapport and trust, which will then stem into positive word of mouth.

2.            If you’ve dealt with a business that you thought gave great service then tell everyone about them! It’s good for them and it’s good for you too. Use your social media outlets, your blog even your email.

3.            Send out emails to your customers and let them know of upcoming sales or offer them a first chance at the sale before you publicise it.

4.            When you post an item to a customer include something for free, perhaps a sample of a product that would compliment the bought product. Free lollies or a discount code off their next purchase would also be appreciated.

5.            Have a Facebook Sale – simply upload photos of the items you want to sell and get people to post ‘sold’ in the comment box under the photo. This is a way of getting your business known in your Facebook circle.

7.            Ensure your Facebook Page is working for you. Set it up with a good Profile Image, Timeline image, links to your website, Contact form and even shopping facilities. Include a good description, keywords and a link to your website. In fact try adding your direct link to the ‘About’ section, that way people can go directly to your website from your profile page. Look for groups that talk about your type of products or services and participate in the conversations, but don’t spam them with constant promos for what you sell.

8.            Get some credibility to build trust in your business. Join relevant groups and add their symbols to your website and email signature. If there are accreditation schemes or professional qualifications for your industry, spend the money on them. The Internet Industry Association is a good place to start.

9.            Run a contest and let everyone know about it via your social media outlets, directly via email and on your website. Ask others to spread the word and give them an incentive to do so, perhaps an extra entry into the competition.

10.            If you sell products make a slideshow of them, change it into a video and upload this to YouTube and then share it on your Facebook and website. Take some photos/video of people using your products, take some cute shots, funny shots, and bloopers and use these too.

11.            Run a scavenger hunt with a prize for the winner. A scavenger hunt can be run over 24 hours or a week. Think about your followers and what they are interested in and how long you think they would engage in a hunt.

  1. Decide on the topic of your scavenger hunt, e.g.; baby products
  2. Find a collection of relevant web sites on the topic.
  3. Write the instructions and questions in word and copy onto your site/Facebook.
  4. Post a list of the designated web sites to search.
  5. Cut and paste the exact wording from the web sites and turn the information into questions.
  6. Gather the material from a variety of different web sites and from various positions on the pages.
  7. Mix up the order of the questions so that people have to browse around all of the sites to find the answers.
  8. Whoever finds all the correct answers and emails them to you first is the winner!

Here are ten simple ways you can leverage your product review to make it work as part of your ongoing marketing strategy.

  1. Link to your review in your social media postings. Let everyone know you have been reviewed and that you’re excited about it!

15.            Take a small zip close sandwich bag and fill it with your marketing material:
Your business card, business flyer, brochure, deals and discounts etc and add a few lollies or a lollipop to it. This is great when anyone asks, “What do you do?” Simply tell them and hand them a little ‘goodie bag’ so they don’t forget you.

16.            Can you sponsor a local event in a small way by offering the school, hospital, church etc a gift basket full of your products to raffle? Ask them to display your business cards, bookmarks or brochures with the prize. Write to a few and you might be surprised at the response.

17.            Organise a fundraising event for a local charity or cause. Specify that a large % or all of the proceeds go to the charity. This will not only help your cause but get your business name circulating, a good win/win scenario.

18.            If you run a local business consider putting on a ‘get together’ or small luncheon/morning tea to help others get introduced. You can do it for customers and/or suppliers. 21.            Can you send a good customer a free gift? Perhaps some flowers with a card thanking them for using your business. A magazine subscription, a book, chocolates etc would all get someone talking about you. It could become a monthly occurrence, word will soon spread of your generosity.

22.            Get a social media strategy organised. This strategy will give your customers a sense of belonging and familiarity with your business.
Simply write down the days of the week and then plan:

  1. Monday – Post a ‘product spotlight’. Upload a photo of one of your products and tell them the benefits of it.
  2. Tuesday – Post a hint that your customers would like. Again something that would benefit them.
  3. Wednesday – Point them to another Facebook page that would be of interest to them.
  4. Thursday – Link to a page on your website and explain it.
  5. Friday – Do 5 ‘shout outs’ to some other Facebook Pages.
  6. Comment on at least 2 Facebook pages a day!

23.            Ask customers to try and then review your products for you. These testimonials and photos can then be used on your Facebook, website etc. Offer 5 products for review and see the buzz start.

24.            Instead of leaving your business card or other promo material at a business or in someone’s email box, create a list of the top 10 reasons why they should choose your company. Make them 100% true, humorous and memorable. Then leave this with them instead!

25.            When you get new stock in post photos of it on Facebook before it goes on your site to entice an interest. Describe the products so the customers can get an idea and mention how lovely, delicate etc it is to evoke a feeling of sensation.

26.            Think of the last 3 purchases you made that compare with your own products or services.

List the businesses you made those purchases from then beside each write down where/how you found them and what made you buy from them in particular. Was it their Google position? Did you hear about them via a friend?

Write down every step of the way you took to purchase from them.

This gives you an informative glimpse into how other businesses are successfully making sales, in your price and product range.

27.            Use email marketing and use it well. You should have a list of all your customers email addresses, if not go through all your orders and make the list. Follow up on their purchases and ask them if they are satisfied with the products and the service. If they are then ask for a simple testimonial and use that to promote your credibility.

28.            Build yourself a well connected network of people and businesses. It is better to have only 30 influenced and motivated people in your network than 1000 uninterested people. Focus on who you would like to be connected with and begin building a relationship with them. This can take time but the benefits will be huge when the connections have been made. Be a friendly, helpful person and share with others.
